About Us
Fresno Coexist is dedicated to encouraging greater respect between bicyclists and motorists countywide, hopefully resulting in safer conditions for all of us.
Why is it Necessary?
Fresno is one of the top 100 fastest growing cities in the Nation. As the population grows, vehicle traffic will increase as well. Fresno Coexist seeks to ensure that despite this growth, the roads of Fresno County can still be an attractive and safe alternative to cyclists.
What Does The Coexist Campaign Consist of?
Our Coexist Campaign will be an ongoing effort to educate both motorists and cyclists to share the road. Ideally, we want to educate both groups with every bit of available information. We will work both alone and will seek out any interested individuals, organizations, or agencies that will help spread the message.
What is the message?
The key messages of the campaign is to:
1. Reminding motorists to leave at least 3 feet of space when passing bicyclists, and to pass slowly and carefully.
2. Reminding bicyclists to ride safely and predictably in the roadway.
3. Reminding motorists to check their side mirrors for approaching bicyclists before opening their car doors after parking.
4. Reminding bicyclists to ride at least 3 feet outside of the dangerous door zone - the area just next to parked cars, where doors can suddenly and dangerously fly open.
